The Fall of Thebes
The Fall of Thebes

Book One of the Golden Ankh Series.

Valek was a handsome and influential man who had the world at his feet but he made the fatal mistake of crossing Isis and was incarcerated in the Underworld in penance for his sins.  He has been there so long that all humanity has fled and left him demonised.  When a High Priestess of Amun tries to resurrect a dead Princess, he takes the chance to escape.  He has a score to settle and musters his forces to cause chaos until Isis and Thebes fall, leaving Egypt at the mercy of the Roman Empire.  While Queen Cleopatra is distracted by war, the task of defeating Valek is left to a Roman soldier, a serving girl and a reluctant priest who, with the aid of sorcery and magic try, to send him back to the Underworld where he belongs - Ancient Thebes is modern day Luxor.

I love horror but hate it when it is overdone to the point of being little more than a shock fest. This is why enjoyed The Fall Of Thebes. I wasn’t overdone and really draws you into a different world. Ancient Egypt must have been fascinating with its Gods and cults and the authors brings these to life. I could imagine the characters and settings and there were many times when I was left with a chill running down my spine. This is how good fantasy horror should be written.

I loved this book! In part because I love Egyptian history and it was so well researched, in part because Connie Tindale writes wonderfully. A guilty weekend of pure escapism the characters and plot were cleverly brought together and left me wanting more.

If the next volumes/books are as much fun to read as this one, then you'd be crazy not to buy them immediately! I had a great time with this book. I actually loved the relatively short chapters, which like threads, wove together an action packed ( sometimes very sexy, some times quite gorey adventure. I found myself staying awake at night, turning pages, reading greedily to make sure my favorite characters were making it through the different events. Lovely book, pocket friendly price..

Absolutely brilliant read, once I picked it up I could not put it down, got totally absorbed in the characters, hope I do not give too much away by saying my favourites survived to tell another tale, looking forward to the next instalment. Karnak Temple will never be the same, but I cannot recommend it highly enough.
